After installing Garmin express to update the nuvi 2555 I notice my Windows 7 computer is slow. Recently had a very bad time with other downloaded programs ant that started the same way. Could this be due to Windows compatibility problem? I have considered uninstalling Garmin Express and Home Base as a precaution but if I could find a better option then I could try that

Why Is Garmin Express Download So Slow Mac Os
So glad people said it isn't internet or computer. I have 75Mb/s download 75Mb/s upload that normally functions about 5% higher than the stated 75/75. It's definitely a Garmin idiosyncrasy! I'm not sure if their servers are crap or maybe the software somehow purposefully limits bandwidth. Garmin Express is your one-stop shop for keeping your nuvi, zumo, or dezl up-to-date. Update maps - Update software - Register your Device - Back up.

- I would try uninstalling Garmin Express and Home base to find out if that is what is slowing your PC.
If that makes no difference, then you may as well reinstall and look for a solution elsewhere. - edited July 2013Garmin Express is known to be a resource hog. It doesn't need to constantly be running in the background checking for updates (or whatever else it's doing). It's main purpose is to update the maps on your GPS. If you've already updated the maps with it, I personally see no reason for it to be installed/running on the system. Uninstalling it should allow your PC's resources to go back to normal (or whatever normal was before you installed it). If you need to run it again to update your maps in the future, this can be done on an 'as needed' basis.
If you want to check for updates manually (without having a large, pretty much useless program constantly running in the background), there is always WebUpdater:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
Note that WebUpdater does NOT check for map updates nor does it install them. WebUpdater only checks for updated system software (firmware), voices and pretty much all other updates except for maps. To update the maps, you'll need to reinstall Garmin Express or MapUpdater.
You can also check for map updates by simply logging into your myGarmin account. If you have a device that a map update is available for, it will let your know and you can then reinstall Garmin Express or MapUpdater for the map update. - Thank you for the reply and I will definitely uninstall Base Camp. In addition to slow operation the computer runs hot causing the cooling fan to run much more. That might not happen to other users but I regard it as a warning.
What is 'Home base'? Do you mean BaseCamp? If so, I can't see how that would cause such a problem. Basecamp doesn't run in the background, when you quit from Basecamp, it's gone.I would try uninstalling Garmin Express and Home base- Try running msconfig, going to Startup and unchecking anything made by Garmin. Then follow the info posted by SergZak.
- Thank you for the replies. I have uninstalled BC and unchecked the rest and our little laptop seems happier for it. I guess I'll quit now before it detonates again
